What does winning looks like now? What winning (together) could/should look like. Tech, platforms, tools have changed fast. Where does civic space sit – even the ability to organize/campaign. The current state of polarization, populism and authoritarianism. Operating in a media/political environment of distrust, disinformation. Here are some of the overarching ideas that we’re hearing in conversations with the organizing committee, in applications, and in the chatter around our networks. But we also need to organize, learn, and build deep relationships that help us thrive in the future no matter what happens in elections, politics, media. Themes we’re kicking aroundĢ020 is a BIG year.

We’re grateful to our hosts and the local/regional folks who will be joining us there. We’re also excited to be gathering in Texas, a state that sits at the center of so much debate, hard work and progressive organizing. Stepping away for four days, breathing fresh air and smelling wildflowers is a reminder of our roots and why we gather.

There’s a reason we don’t do this in hotel conference rooms. The event a place for people working in technology, media and social change to come together, share experience and learn from one another, create (or build upon) deep relationships, and make plans to do good big things. Web of Change is creating a space for a group of people, united by a shared vision for a new future that is possible through connection rooted in justice, to breathe, share, and learn together. We believe Web of Change has never been more necessary or, as a community, we’ve had more potential for good. We’ve talked through our vision and, frankly, why we’re bothering to do this. We have a board and smart group of Web of Change alums joining the organizing committee. It’s taken an extraordinary amount of labor - so much that we didn’t have an event in 2018. Volunteer event organizers and board members – and community members and alums – have learned a lot. Web of Change has been through a lot of change in the past few years. It will fill up but there’s still room so join us and share this post.

It’s a great size for the venue - and the event in general. You should apply! We expect 75-85 participants this year. Web of Change 2020 is happening April 20-23 at The Retreat at Balcones Springs about an hour outside Austin, Texas.
